So, what are you guys doing these days? Working on a manuscript? Trying to get back into gear after Christmas? Just relaxing with a book?
University has started, so I'm spending a lot of time studying, but with it I'm working on getting an Icelandic book published. I kind of feel out of sorts, though, because I feel that I should be writing (and not waiting for the kid-betas to finish reading). It's just that I'm so excited about this project that I find it hard to put it aside and dive back into my YA novel.
It's not like I've been doing nothing in January, though. I did polish the Icelandic MG manuscript, and I have a schedule I'm sticking to. It's a darn good novel, might I add, so I have a good feeling about this one.
Going back to my YA manuscript looks so daunting. I just need to do what Rachael Harrie advised: Take it in sections. Smaller parts are always more manageable.
Is everyone else being super active in their writing?
Oh! And don't forget to enter the Trilogy Contest for some awesome prizes!
Hey Tessa! I've really just gotten myself back into the writing habit after the holidays. They threw me for a loop! Ready to roll now though! Good luck tackling the YA!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your writing, Tessa! I've been editing, editing, and more editing lately between short stories, my editing job, and rewrites in my novel. It's good, though, and everything looks so much spiffier with all these edits.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to get closer to finishing my first draft at the moment.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your writing!
I think it's really cool you are writing about Iceland. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Right now I'm trying to get out some short stories.
Iceland...now that's unusual!
ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderful things going for you - you should revel in it instead of worrying about what you aren't doing!!! (and you get a prize for cutest kid ever picture post - don't tell my kids, hehe).

I'm not super-actively writing at the moment, because I'm looking at my university schedule with a sense of panic. But yay for you-- keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHi Tessa! Thanks for dropping by my blog. I'm now following your blog, too, and will be back :)
ReplyDeleteOn writing, I try to do at least 500 to 1K words a day but it's difficult to do this especially on a long busy day. But the last few days, I've been busy with short stories and a lot of reading, too. Will go back to my manuscript in the days to come. Have a nice weekend!
I'm just about to dive into some rewrites on my first draft! That's awesome you have a good feeling about your MG! Good luck with it!
ReplyDeleteMy problem is querying. I'd much rather spend time working on my new wip (YA) than waste time researching agents so they can reject me with a form letter (or nothing at all). ;)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your projects!
I've got academics to handle on the one hand, and the writing on my work in progress on the other.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying really had to stick to my ROW80 challenge - which for the most part is going ok but work is really busy and I struggle to balance all the stuff outside of writing.
ReplyDeleteSo wait, is the book written in the language Icelandic? Wow! Very cool. And I know what you mean about waiting for betas to get back to you. :)
ReplyDeleteYou all sound super busy! Or most of you ;) I'm in better spirits now because I've started on a new manuscript, though I really, really should be focusing on rewriting my YA. Still, I want to get the first draft of the new manuscript on paper while it's still fresh and exciting in my head.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Janet, that MG is written in Icelandic...which is something I thought I'd never do because I don't really read a lot of Icelandic lit. But my kids probably won't be able to read enough English to understand it once they're 10 (if I'd written it in English), so I decided to do it in Icelandic.
That's good advice on the YA manuscript. I need to do that same thing with my own.

Hey Tesssa! How are the manuscript edits going? School?
ReplyDeleteHi E.J. :) Um...I sort of started on a new project. I know, I know, I should stick with one and see it through, but this one's been nagging at me for a while. Things are going great with the Icelandic MG though, so at least I'm doing something right (I'll start contacting publishers next week if I can get a hold of all my kid-beta readers.
ReplyDeleteSchool's going fine, thanks for asking ^.^
Yup, trying to be super-active in my writing... I WILL finish a first draft this coming weekend, I WILL, I WILL!
ReplyDeleteIcelandic MG? I'm totally intrigued! And yes, I think I need to set a daily goal and, um, stick to it.
